Club Membership
So… what do you get with your membership?
Obviously you get the company of like-minded people. That means people who are interested in all aspects of modern climbing – both indoors and out, bouldering and roped, and all of the main variations – top-roping, sport and trad. It makes no difference whether you are starting out indoors and interested in moving outside or are happy to keep doing what you currently do.
BMC Affiliate Membership
The club is BMC affiliated, which means that you get BMC affiliate membership too. So you get a copy of the BMC Summit magazine and are covered by their Combined Liability insurance – and with the BMC membership card you get pretty good discounts (some as high as 20%) in most climbing and outdoor activity shops.
You also get access to the BMC’s training and advisory services, and can participate in the reciprocal booking arrangement which has over 60 climbing huts available.
It’s worth pointing out that almost all of the club’s membership fees go to the BMC. We retain a small amount to pay for shared club resources such as the website, but the remainder goes as a contribution to the BMC’s work.
Retail Discounts
One of the main benefits of BMC affiliate membership is that you get full access to their discount scheme. This covers a range of well-known retail outlets such as Cotswold Outdoor and Rock & Run, and also offers discounts at some of the leading UK training centres, such as Plas Y Brenin. And digital services are covered too, with discounts available at Rockfax.
Climbing Discounts
If you’re an active indoor climber, one of the things you’ll appreciate is a bit of a saving on your wall access, and we have preferential rates at the Volume One bouldering centre in East Grinstead.
Existing BMC members
The BMC recognise that it’s not uncommon for people to have membership for multiple reasons – for example where someone wants to be a member as a private individual, but also needs membership for work purposes.
In order to make sure that people don’t have to pay several times, the BMC operate a scheme which allows Affiliate Membership costs to be reclaimed by people who are already have membership for other reasons.
Please contact us if you need further information abut this scheme, as it’s a simple process to use. In our case the majority of the cost of EGCC membership is the BMC Affiliate Membership, so it is definitely worth doing if you are in that situation.
